About the artist

I was born in Blackburn in 1926 and I realised I was interested in art whilst at school.
In particular, I used to enjoy producing pencil drawings. I entered my first competition
when I was very young. I remember the picture I drew was of a man smoking a pipe.
I never received a reply.

At ten years of age I lived in Glossop and it was during this period of my life that I
learned to love the countryside. In the three years that I lived there, I used to walk
on the moors, sketching and painting.

When I left school, I became a joiner, but I still found time for drawing and painting.
I’ve always found it an enjoyable and relaxing pastime and so around this time I joined
Blackburn Artists where I began to learn more about art and I began to meet people with
The same interests as myself.

I think that the artist that I most admire is Renoir. I have painted some of his works in an attempt to better understand him.
I exhibit in several different venues throughout the north west and I have a painting of Kathleen Ferrier on display in King
Georges Hall in Blackburn.

For the last ten years, I have lived in Bolton and am a member of Bolton Art Circle.
